Bucharest Court Rejects Preventive Arrest of Călin Georgescu

A court in Bucharest decided to release former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, rejecting prosecutors' request to place him under extended preventive arrest, Romanian outlets HotNews and Digi24 reported.
Georgescu had been detained a day earlier by the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) on suspicion of defrauding a businessman of more than one million euros. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the courthouse to cheer as he walked free.
