DRC Plane Crash Kills 17, Including Senior Military Officials

Seventeen people were killed on Saturday in an airplane crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to reports by Channel 14 and The Jerusalem Post. Among the dead were two of the country's most senior military justice officials.

According to local news outlet Actualité.cd, the victims of the crash near the town of Kenge included Lieutenant General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi Tiende, the First President of the High Military Court. Following the disaster, the government declared three days of national mourning and ordered flags lowered to half-mast across the country.

The cause of the crash and the circumstances surrounding the incident have not yet been released.
