Drone crashes in northern Romania; fighter jets scrambled

An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed on Thursday morning in a forested area near the town of Solca in Suceava County, northern Romania. According to outlets HotNews and Digi24, local residents reported a loud noise and an explosion as the aircraft struck trees, with some civilians locating and filming the wreckage.

Following the incident, classes were suspended at four regional schools, and authorities issued mobile emergency alerts to residents in Botoșani and Tulcea counties. According to Digi24, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence scrambled two F-16 fighter jets to monitor the airspace after radar tracked an aerial target operating over Ukraine near the border. The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
