Explosion Destroys Athens Building: Dead and Missing in Plaka District

A two-storey residential building collapsed in central Athens following a powerful explosion in the tourist district of Plaka, near the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus. The blast also injured three people and caused heavy damage to nearby shops, buildings, and vehicles, according to the South China Morning Post and Israeli outlet Walla.

According to reports from both outlets, rescue crews recovered the bodies of a man and a young woman, while four people remain missing, including two couples of American tourists. In contrast, Hungarian news site HVG reported at least four dead and two missing. The circumstances surrounding the explosion have not yet been released.
