German and Russian Foreign Ministers Hold First Meeting Since Ukraine War Began

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, in the first direct meeting between the two nations' chief diplomats since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by German broadcaster Tagesschau and Novaya Gazeta Europe.

According to South Korean news agency Yonhap and reports in Russia, the talks lasted about 20 minutes. The Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that the meeting was initiated by the German side, and that the Berlin delegation requested restrictions on press access, barring questions and audio recordings of opening remarks.
