German Poll: 55% of Citizens Call for Chancellor Merz's Resignation

A new survey indicates that a majority of the German public favors Friedrich Merz stepping down, as the AfD maintains a wide lead over the CDU.

According to reports by Naftemporiki and iefimerida, a poll conducted by the Forsa Institute in Germany indicates that 55% of citizens demand the resignation of Chancellor Friedrich Merz, compared to 40% who support him remaining in office. The demand for his departure receives strong backing from opposition supporters, as well as from 21% of voters for his own Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

At the same time, opinion polls by Forsa and the Insa Institute show the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party consolidating a lead of more than seven percentage points over the CDU, polling between 27% and 29.5%. According to Forsa, a majority of respondents attributed the decline in support for the CDU to an inability to address citizens' day-to-day problems and broken campaign promises.
