Hungary Energy State Secretary Resigns Amid Sector Leadership Reshuffle
Hungary's State Secretary for Energy András Tótth has stepped down from his post amid new leadership appointments across key national energy bodies.
Hungary's State Secretary for Energy, András Tótth, has resigned from his post, Hungarian media outlets HVG and 24.hu reported. In an interview with 24.hu, Tótth said he had done what the homeland required, adding that he had made clear upon entering office that he did not intend to retire from the ministry.
According to a report by HVG, Tótth's resignation on Tuesday evening coincided with new leadership appointments at both the national energy regulatory authority and electricity transmission grid operator Mavir. HVG noted that the circumstances surrounding both appointments raise questions over whether authorities intend to limit political interference in the energy sector as previously promised.
