Hungary: Fidesz Appeals to EU Over Opposition; Magyar Calls Move 'Pathetic'
Hungary's governing parties have sent a letter to the European Commission complaining about the opposition Tisza party, drawing sharp mockery from its leader.
Hungary's governing Fidesz party and its coalition partner KDNP have addressed a letter to the European Union complaining about what they characterized as arbitrariness by the opposition Tisza party, Hungarian news outlets HVG and 24.hu reported.
According to the reports, the letter to the European Commission invoked terms such as a "constitutional coup," "political police," and "conceptional proceedings," while criticizing Brussels for what the ruling parties termed a deafening silence.
In response, Tisza leader Péter Magyar dismissed the move as "pathetic and ridiculous." Magyar criticized the governing parties, arguing that they regularly make threats domestically only to turn to Brussels to complain, despite having denounced EU institutions for years. Further details regarding the correspondence have not yet been released.
