Hungary: Parliament Lifts Immunity of Prime Minister Péter Magyar

Hungary's parliament has lifted the immunity of Prime Minister Péter Magyar alongside two former ministers from Viktor Orbán's government, following a request by the state prosecution. This was reported by Greek news outlet Ta Nea and Hungarian site 444.hu, which noted that the decision has already been published in the official gazette.

According to ynet, the investigation into Magyar — who assumed office in April — concerns an incident in which he seized a mobile phone during an altercation at a nightclub and threw it into the Danube River, where divers later recovered it. Magyar asserted that the episode was a political provocation orchestrated by Orbán's party, but urged lawmakers to vote in favor of lifting his immunity, stating that he has nothing to hide.
