Kenya: Cult leader convicted of murdering 191 people

Paul Mackenzie was sentenced to life in prison after causing the deaths of approximately 190 children and one other person in his doomsday cult.

A Kenyan court has sentenced cult leader Paul Mackenzie to life in prison following his conviction for the murder of 191 people. According to reports from the BBC and The Jerusalem Post, the victims—all but one of whom were children—died after Mackenzie ordered them to starve themselves to death in order to "meet Jesus." Their bodies were later discovered in shallow graves and latrines throughout the forest where the cult operated. It was further reported that Mackenzie’s accomplices used threats and physical violence to ensure followers obeyed his orders. Further details have not yet been released.
