Police and IDF Clash Over Release of Modi'in Deserter Following Riots
Police blamed the military for releasing a detained deserter, while reports emerged of protocol violations by military police.
A public dispute has erupted between the Israel Police and the IDF following ultra-Orthodox riots in Modi'in surrounding the attempted arrest of a military deserter. According to a report by Kan 11, police officials pushed back against criticism, asserting that the decision to release the deserter rested solely with the military.
Concurrently, channel i24NEWS reported that the Military Police force arriving at the scene failed to evacuate the deserter immediately, in breach of standard operational procedures. According to the report, this conduct contributed to the escalation of unrest before forces were extracted.
Further details regarding the inquiry into the incident have not yet been released.
