Senior Pentagon officials have asked several NATO member states in recent weeks to tone down their public rhetoric against Moscow, outlets Walla and the Taipei Times reported, citing news agency Reuters.

According to the reports, the American request is based on arguments that sharp warnings and statements from European leaders could ultimately harm European security. The information was disclosed by four sources familiar with the discussions, including three European officials and one American official.
