Romania: Former Judge Andrea Chiș Nominated as Justice Minister

Former judge and Superior Council of Magistracy member Andrea Chiș has been nominated as Minister of Justice in Romania's incoming government led by Siegfried Mureșan. According to reports by G4Media and Digi24, the three designated coalition parties agreed to tap an independent technocrat for the sensitive post rather than a party-affiliated politician.

Reacting to the nomination, Chiș stated that the decision took her by surprise, adding that Mureșan informed her she was the consensus technocrat among all coalition partners. Chiș is known publicly as a prominent critic of dysfunctions within the Romanian judicial system.
