Russia: Record Win for Ruling Party in Parliamentary Vote

Russia's ruling party, United Russia, secured a record victory in parliamentary elections held under tight state control and widespread criticism. According to preliminary results, the party backing President Vladimir Putin won 355 of the 450 seats in the Duma, the lower house of parliament.

As reported by The Guardian and Folha de S.Paulo, the outcome gives the Kremlin an unprecedented super-majority, surpassing its previous record set in 2016. In addition, 49 deputies who took part in the war in Ukraine were elected to the new parliament, a development expected to be highlighted as evidence of public backing for the military campaign.
