Mediated Talks in New York Between US and Iran

US representatives and Iran's foreign minister met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly under Qatari mediation, while Tehran denies dropping preconditions.

Envoys representing the United States and Iran held mediated talks on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, The Guardian and Crypto Briefing reported. According to the reports, the three-hour meeting was mediated by Qatar and brought together Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi with Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

While Trump and envoy Witkoff described the discussions as productive and encouraging, suggesting further talks were possible, Tehran pushed back against claims that it dropped preconditions regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Following news of the talks, the price of Brent crude oil fell below $100 per barrel for the first time in two weeks.
