Commenting on the Iranian proposal he rejected to reopen the waterway within seven days, Trump asserted that Tehran sought the arrangement because it is "dying right now."

According to German broadcaster Tagesschau, the opening proposal was submitted to Washington on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Further details regarding the naval escort operation have not yet been released.
